Ustaoset – your snowkiting home base
Nestled in a charming Norwegian village, Ustaoset offers the perfect mix of comfort and adventure. Just 15 minutes from the first snowkiting spots at Hardangervidda, it also offers the opportunity to go snowkiting within walking distance from our doorstep.
It's perfect, especially when strong winds or snowfall close the road to Hardangervidda, thanks to that you'll never miss a day on the snow.
Our cozy cabin sits in the heart of the village, easily accessible and ready to welcome you. Inside, you’ll find three double rooms and one triple room, two bathrooms, a spacious living area, a fully equipped kitchen, and a sunny terrace – perfect for relaxing, sharing stories, and planning your next ride. For families or larger groups, we can either book the whole cabin or arrange a private apartment nearby.
Endless snowkiting options
Every day, we choose the best spot for your kite session or trip based on the forecast, visibility, wind, and other conditions. Most often, we drive up to Hardangervidda in our heated van, where along the 30-kilometer stretch of road, there are numerous parking spots with a variety of terrain to ride.
If the road is closed, there are still great alternatives: you can ride on the lake right in Ustaoset, under the iconic Hallingskarvet mountain, or explore other locations in the valley. After spending eight winters and one summer in this area, it has truly become one of our three homes – we know almost every rock and hill here.

More than just snowkiting
Ustaoset’s perfect location means there’s plenty to do, even on rare days when snowkiting isn’t possible. Right in the village, cross-country ski trails await, or you can take a ski touring adventure under Hallingskarvet mountain. For a more relaxed pace, you can enjoy a short walk to Café Presttun for a coffee and a traditional Norwegian waffle.
Just a 10-minute drive away is Geilo, a small ski resort village offering empty slopes with perfect conditions, snowparks, flat cross-country trails, shops, restaurants, and a spa with pools and saunas. About an hour from Ustaoset, in Dagali, you’ll find another family-friendly ski area with Norway’s longest sledging trail.
